Jake Hunter DS OST, more, reviewedRPGFan: We have the four-disc OST for Detective Saburo Jinguji (Jake Hunter) DS, as well as five more Summon Night reviews, thus completing our "soundtrack collection"s for both series.
Retro Review: Summon Night (series)RPGFan: Developers Flight-Plan and Banpresto have had a long-running series in Japan called "Summon Night." Atlus has brought a few gaiden titles to North America, but the main series has thus far stayed in Japan. With music by Chiaki Fujita, these songs hold a similar feel to the Gust Sound Team. Check it out!
FFXI Piano Collections Review!RPGFan: it's completely new and different from the disc released with the box set. This album was just shipped out to retailers last week, and we have a comprehensive review of the album on tap, complete with audio samples. Some other piano albums were added to the 'Fan's collection as well, but this is definitely the highlight.
New "Tales" Album: Battle Arranges!Just saw this on GMR, can't find any further info on it presently. But if there's on thing the "Tales" series is lacking, it's arranged music. Nothing but OSTs from Sakuraba for miles around. It's about time we get something like this.
Final Fantasy Fables: Chocobo's Dungeon Coming July 8thThe game is almost out, and mainstream critics seem to dislike it already (GameSpot 6.5/10, GameInformer 5/10). But regardless of how the game fares, we audiophiles know that the soundtrack is top notch. Here is a link to Jeriaska's review of the soundtrack at RPGFan. Hopefully Square Enix will have the sense to give this one to Americans on iTunes.
Shiren the Wanderer Soundtrack ReviewsRPGFan: Only two soundtracks have ever been published for Koichi Sugiyama's work on Chunsoft's "Shiren the Wanderer" series. These great soundtracks have received limited exposure for importers, but we've got both reviewed over at RPGFan today!
Aveyond Soundtrack ReviewRPGFan: independent PC RPG "Aveyond" gets a soundtrack release, and we review it. Also included in the update are Soma Bringer, Elvandia Story, and Dragon Shadow Spell.
Rune Factory 2 Soundtrack ReviewRPGFan: Among other soundtracks reviewed this week, the highlight was definitely the soundtrack for the Nintendo DS game "Rune Factory 2," a fantasy RPG with roots in the Harvest Moon series.
Kabu Trader Shun OST ReviewRPGFan: A reader-review of this intentionally retro-sounding DS soundtrack, from the same developers that made Phoenix Wright (Gyakuten Saiban).
FFXI Piano CollectionsSaw this on GMR. Looks like they're finally printing the FFXI Piano Collection that came with the FFXI Premium OST Box as a separate release. BUT, they'll also have some new tracks from the most recent expansion. Good news for people who wanted a separate album, bad news for those of us who were content with the box.
RPGFan: 1000 soundtracks reviewed!Nods are also given to Chudah's Corner and the VGMdb for their accomplishments in this news update. As for the reviews added to send us into 1000, check the update to find out!
Interview with DarumayaRPGFan: Interview with the recording group "Darumaya," including vocalist Kyoko Kishikawa and others. The "Hyper Game Music" concerts/recordings are discussed, among other things. Thanks to Jeriaska for conducting the interview.
NPR: VGM and more "bleeps and bloops" talkMy wife called me to say that NPR ran a VGM story today. Too bad it was straight awful. Now they got Jack Wall saying "bleeps and bloops" too; he and Tallarico are all they talk about. Totally misses the point, as usual.
drammatica - Best of Shimomura ReviewRPGFan: self-described as an "unabashed gush of love" rather than an actual review...this album is so good, you can go without a few meals to purchase this one. Trust me.
RPGFan Interview With Kumi TaniokaThanks to Jeriaska, we have another stellar interview. Jeriaska's own site hosts the Japanese transcript, and SquareMusic has the French version. We at RPGFan were privy to the "official" English version. Check it out!
